Sole Bay has a rich and fascinating story to tell from local museums, photographs and memories to Southwold Town Hall and its Victorian police cells. But valuable knowledge is at risk of being lost as communities change and volunteer groups face growing pressure.
The project area includes Southwold, Reydon, Wrentham, Wangford, Uggeshall, Blythburgh and Walberswick, plus the smaller villages in between.
Southwold Town Council, in collaboration with local community and heritage organisations, is beginning a project that will preserve and share Sole Bay’s heritage, open more of the Town Hall to the public, safeguard precious records and photographs, record memories before they are lost, and help people of all ages discover the history on their doorstep. It will also create new opportunities for young people and volunteers to learn heritage skills, share local stories.
We want to hear what local stories, places, collections and traditions matter most to you — and how you might like to take part. From coastal history to the history of local villages, to Southwold Town Hall and its Victorian police cells, local archives, photographs, oral histories and community events, your views will help shape the future of this exciting project.
